Have you ever noticed how much condensation is produced by your air conditioning unit on a summer day? My first concern was to move it away from the house, as the builder had it drain right at the foundation. Probably most houses are poorly designed, like this. A neighbor of mine told me he captured this condensation for use in his coy pond. So, I decided to capture this water to irrigate my plants. Fortunately, the elbow fitting at the discharge was not glued into place; I took this down to Home Depot to find the pieces that I needed. Thank God for the knowledgeable and helpful employees. |
Fittings from left to right: 3/4" street elbow (replaces the 3/4" elbow) 3/4" adapter to 3/4" MIP 3/4" MIP to nylon barb adapter. The barb adapter is to 1x3/4" vinyl tubing; you can use smaller, cheaper tubing. I prefer this to the 1/2" tubing that I used for one of the A/C units. |
PVC cement used to connect the pieces comes in 2 parts - primer & cement. Only use in well ventilated spaces & use gloves. |
All the pieces are set out on a large piece of brown paper that was shipping material from a cable modem; I used this to protect my work surface from the purple primer (it stains). Disregard the 2 extra PVC pieces; they were for an experiment that I decided not to use. |
Apply the Purple primer to the outside of one piece & the PVC cement to the inside of the other piece to be attached. |
The finished product. |
