The Southeast has been blessed with quite a bit of rain, recently; however, the long drought has brought about a need to take action.

Take Action
:

* Buy or build a rainbarrel. This will allow you water for vegetation, independent of watering restrictions and ease run-off problems.
* Install a greywater system, if it meets code in your area. This provides water for your garden, while easing the burden on water treatment plants.
* Install drip irrigation and soaker hoses; and, cover with pine straw or mulch to reduce evaporation.
* Capture the condensation from your airconditioner.
* Write / call / email your state representative about tax incentives for installing rain & greywater reclamation products. Too many people believe the government should fix everything; here is your chance to let them know what you think.
While on the topic of water, I must tell you of an interview of Salah Hassanein, that I heard on the Mike Gallagher radio program. Salah is chairman of Water for Life, International (WFLI), which is dedicated to deployment of self-sustaining water treatment systems in developing countries. We have built such a great civilization in America that our water problems involve whether or not we can wash our cars in our driveways...other places in the world aren't organized enough to even have suitable drinking water.
