Do you need help with your overgrown, neglected garden?
Did you need help with your curb appeal?
Do you have pictures to give you ideas with your curb appeal but just not sure how you're vision will turn out?
Have you ever gone to your local nursery, bought $$$ worth of plants, spent the weekend amending the soil and planting only to find out the
light is all wrong (too much, too little) or the plants you bought need way more maintenance than you thought? Hey, they said drought tolerant
so why do I need to water?

PhotoGardening is a brand new concept I came up with because I have answered "Yes" to all of the above. Over 20 years of dirt under my
nails and working with the local botanical garden has given me an extensive knowledge of plants and how they work. I also enjoy working with
software (I know, I know but as you can see, I do). So now I have the unique ability to take your vision and put it in a picture. Not a drawing
of "over here is a tree and over there are bushes" but actual pictures of specific plants, shrubs, bushes and trees. All of the after photos are
created using PhotoGardening - it's not real, it's PhotoGardening. Cool!
New neighbor put up red block wall and cut
the main stem of the cedar bushes. Even if a
plant is marked "shade" doesn't mean it will
grow in deep shade like this.
By request, a brick knee wall was added. All
of the plants that are green in this
PhotoGarden will stay that way all year long.
The pink caladiums, which are annuals add
color and have the same watering
requirements as the evergreens.
BEFORE
20 year old house with original landscaping.
Requested the tree left alone.
AFTER
Juniper topiary, boxwood hedge are
evergreen. Daisies and sage are perennials
meaning that they will come back year after
year, so very little maintanance. Caladiums
carry through the theme from the tree on
side yard shown further down the page. Yes,
you too can have a Maserati or your fantasy
car in your garage!
BEFORE
This side garden is sunlit in the afternoon for a few hours.
AFTER
A crepe myrtle was added for some shade and some evergreen ferns along with various pernnials to give the garden interesting visual changes.
Evergreen shrubs - the topiaries,
cedars, golden bayberry and liriope
will give this garden color all year.
Cannas and sage are perennials,
meaning they will come back year
after year.The crepe myrtle looks
great in the winter decorated with
Christmas lights. Please show some
modesty when accepting rave reviews
from neighbors.
AFTER
Perennials with a touch of red
annuals give this a more country
look. The annuals, dragon win
begonias in front can be replaced
with pansies in the fall. This look
takes more TLC and could use some
potted plants by the doors in the
winter for color.
AFTER
Tropical look. Pass the margeritas!
AFTER
Perennials that keep on coming
back - for those of you who
want to plant them, love them
and leave them.
PhotoGardening makes a great gift - Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthday, retirement - you may have more ideas than I have.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Questions - email me at petals@mortarandpetals.com
Getting Started
Below are some BEFORE and AFTER examples.
BEFORE
Trees in front yard were removed, which made the area too sunny for the existing oak leaf hydrangea plant.
AFTER
The stone knee wall along with the evergreen shrubs and topiaries give this house a huge amount of curb appeal with almost no maintenance effort. The
cannas will come back year after year. Just add water!
AFTER
HOUSE FOR SALE
You're a realtor and your client has a house that could use a little curb appeal update. The house needs to sell now, no time for renovations.
How about PhotoGardening? Prospective buyers can have an idea of what the house would look like with a different point of view.
BEFORE
Owner loves the present landscaping, gives
them privacy.
AFTER
Some easy updating - boxwood hedge,
evergreen carolina laurel and a perennial
(my favorite, cannas). Plant this look in the
spring and you have an easy, instant update
in one season.
